Default Defi BF boost gauge installed!!!

Defi Pre install...

Taking the dash apart was easy, three 8m bolts drops the bottom half, three more to remove the light switch housing. The light switch itself just unclips from behind.

The internal diameter of the light switch housing was exactly 60mm, which was perfect except for the flat section of it. The plastic is ABS with a graphite composite, thus very easy to mould when heat is applied... so I did just that and made it completely circular. Took me 5 min!

Here's the finished product... 8)

...and a rear view. I also had to knock up a simple braket to hold the gauge in place.

It fitted in perfectly!

The guage itself (for those who don't know) plugs straight into the Control Unit II. All I had to do was supply the control unit with the required power, and all of this was availble from the lighting switch loom. You need; 12v battery (red), 12v ignition (black/yellow), illumination (blue/grey), and ground (brown). Double check these with your B6 just incase they vary.

One last thing to do is run the boost/vac signal wire from the Defi sensor in the engine bay... the easiest route is through the ECU box, but requires the removal of the windsheild wipers of all things!?!

Dash all back together and everything plugged in. Moved the light switch to the lower compartment by making a small hole for the plug (the only cut I had to make). I'm going to make a better housing for it with some Audi trim to finish it off and look more professional.

Defi gauge drivers view. The pictures really don't do it justice, sorry.

Defi gauge drivers night view. Once again, my poor photography. I'll get a better camera soon!

I'm VERY happy with the end result and managed to fit a boost gauge without making my car look rice. Something I wanted to avoid at all costs! B6's have curtain / side intrusion airbags so a gauge pod on the dash or on the A pillar was never an option anyway.

Cheers,
Andrew

Default Haha, missing home, eh?

Want me to bring some made-in-Britain chocolates or tea when I pay a visit?

Default cool, we (USA) don't have that extra cubby in the knee panel

I've seen some guys do your mod, except they remount the light switch flush into the knee panel just below the gauge.

Default Yeah I notice that you guys are missing it, not that

I used it for anything anyway! The Australian cars are more like the Euro cars I think.

I've been meaning to put a gauge there for a while now, just hadn't decided which one. I saw Sleeper1.8T's post from early last year doing just that, and he installed the switch just below its old position. (link below)

I also didn't want to cut anything just in case I wanted to revert the car back to its original condition.

Will post some more pics once I sort out my final mounting of the light switch.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/539413.phtml</a

Default who set your car up for the driver being on the wrong side? ;-)

looks good man...i'm not big on relocating the light switch (i used the AWE center vent guage), but looks like your solution isn't too bad with that lower cubby....I like how you were able to keep a stock lighting look too!

Default Dam, I knew there was something wrong with it...

Thanks for that! I was seriously considering an AWE gauge but thought I'd try my Defi idea first.

The AWE (Omori) gauge's and the Defi's are the only ones around that have white illumination, black face and a red needle.
