Curious temporary a/c failure
I was driving to the outlet mall on Sunday and the air conditioning in my 2004 A4 1.8QT began to lose strength, The fan continued to blow but the air, gradually over the course of the 45-minute drive, became warmer and warmer until it was barely cooler than the outside temperature (about 90 degree F). I reached the mall and shopped for a couple of hours and I was dreading the 45-minute drive back home without a/c, BUT, when I started the car, the a/c was working again and I had a perfect, climate-controlled ride all the way back home. The rest of that day and today the a/c seems to be working normally.
What do you think caused the temporary failure? Should I head straight to the repair shop or just wait and see if it recurs? I have not noticed anything else amiss, such as high temps, noises, leaks, etc. Any advice appreciated.

I have had something like this recently. In my case, the lines "freeze up" similar to house air conditioners. If it happens again, hit the econ button, wait about 5 minutes, and push the econ button again (I beat it will work okay) or look under the hood right by the firewall on the passenger side. I am going to get it serviced and see if I am a little low on Freon. If that isn't it, there is a restriction somewhere in the system.
