Cracking, but won't turnover/fire...
This morning my wife started my A4 and backed it up 10' to pull the garage out to the curb. I jumped in the car 15 mins later to pull the car forward in the driveway. Nothing, just cracks but doesn't catch. The starter motor is turning the engine, so that would leave spark or fuel. I get no warning lights and no CEL at this point. The car fired right up this morning and she was able to back it up. I won't be able to get the codes until later this evening, but at this point I don't have a CEL. Trying to keep it simple I thought the fuse for the fuel pump might be out. Nope fuse looks fine and I swapped it with another 20 to test, still won't go. I checked the fuses around it and everything seems fine.
The car has 65,000 miles, fuel filter about 10K ago, I have lost count on the number of ing coils I have gone through. But I was not having any misfires before this.
It acts like there is some 'safety' in place to keep it from actually starting. It stops cracking and starts again with letting the clutch in or out, so I ruled that out as well.
Thoughts? Something I am not thinking of?
Thanks

I may have it!
.. had the same thing happen recently on my 04 1.8T - started it up to move it a few feet then turned it off - couldn't start it again for days - finally called my Audi tech and he said it was a common problem with that engine - it runs rich and if you turn on and turn off quickly this can happen - I finally got it started after much persistence, but learned my lesson - if you crank it let it run for a few minutes before turning the engine off - hope this helps! mine is running fine since then and I'm sure you're OK now too

that's exactly why my plugs were fouled...
I didn't take my car for a few weeks except starting it for 5 seconds to take it in and out of the garage. The car was always running on the rich startup cycle which fouled my plugs.

I run two temps cooler and was in a cold climate. Started car
only for 30 seconds and turned off. Next time I tried to start plugs were fouled.
Bottom line, let engine run for a few mins., (especially if it's cold) so one doesn't loose plugs.

well it still won't start, but I will investigate the plugs as a possibility. now I have to
try and remember the temp and gap for Stg 3.
Report back what I find.

I had a flashing CEL, and some misfire codes after scanning with VAG COM...
I logged the misfire count channel while trying to start the car and cylinder 2 and 4 misfire count was going crazy. I mixed the coilpacks around, still misfiring on 2 and 4. I pulled plugs 2 and 4 and they were wet with gas, but all 4 were fouled pretty bad.
