Default Cracked head on my 1.8T :(

My car was diagnosed with a cracked head at 140,000 miles. Apparently the head had been cracked since 80,000 miles, but only now was it was apparent enough to diagnose.

My question is what causes the head to crack??? I've always kept up with maintenance. I changed the oil every 5,000 miles with synthetic (since day one).

The only thing I can think of is my APR 1+ chip. Do you think my car being chipped since it had 1,000 miles on it contributed to the cracked head?

Default Just bad luck...time and temp on metal does wonders...cold climate could also contribute.

Cracked head really isnt that bad of a fix though.

Default I assume a crack between valves?

heat and cool, expand and contract.... the space between the valves is very small, and heads crack there on all motors eventually, especially with 5 valves stuffed in there. and running the elevated temps from overboosting that little turbo (I used to have the same setup until I went BT) I'd guess between the exhaust valves? - PS, I've had the same 3 audi's in your sig - might want to make your sig smaller;its a bit much.

could be, excessive heat can crack the head, FMIC could have saved it

Default Yeah... I was running 30psi on my tiny k04

No I was not running 30psi and the head crack happened BEFORE my BT build when I had my K04 running on APR software.
