brake pad install

A little over a year ago, I bought new rotors and Hawk pads from ECS tuning; I had my garage install them. I just noticed (10k miles later) that there is this raised "ring" on the rotor - as if there was a gap in the pads. There is a gap (for heat dissipation?) but it should be perpendicular to rotation I think. Did the garage put on incorrectly? I have never seen other cars' rotors with this. What could/should be done? Thx.

http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/27463/pads.jpg</a

Just a guess: this could be defective friction material on the pads.
I 've had the OEM pads leave a similar, but not so wide high spot on my rear rotor and upon replacement the pad had a worn down section on the center making the uneven wear on the rotor.

That does not look right. Having both rotors with similar wear pattern is highly suspect to me.
Agreed, only way to say whats going on is to pull the pads and inspect. What does the shop say that put them on?

looks almost like...
The rotors were gouged.. maybe bad from the get-go? It happens sometimes... shouldn't hurt much.
PS, my poor old stock brakes even with Hawk+ are just no match for hard driving.. they go blue on a couple hard stops. Upgrade brakes or upgrade car? Hmm....
