Default Oil is not pressurized in the pan.

It shoot out far when you pull the drain plug from the nature of gravity.

Box wrench for drain plug, not 3/8" socket. AutoZone has a nice *chain* Vice-Grip I use for filters.

It's actually a partial vacuum in order to reduce emissions.

Default how is it a vaccuum?

if it was, wouldnt that affect the pressure in the rest of the oil system?

Default well, aside from overfilling,

i don't think there's anything they did wrong here...there's a reason they make pliers like that specifically for getting oil filters off - they're supposed to be that tight. Furthermore, your problems getting the drain plug off are normal...I worked at an Audi dealership and I'm not a small guy, but 9 out of 10 times, when a car came in for an oil change, I had to really exert myself to get the plug out

Default eh...i've destroyed plenty of filters getting them off...

its a good idea to switch the oil filter anyways, so no harm done

Default 1/2 to 3/4 extra turn? You're kidding!!!!!!

AFTER it's on hand-tight (i.e., no tools)? This would tighten it so much that you'd NEVER get it out without destroying it! Made such a mistake once on my 911 - tightened the filter an extra 1/2 turn after hand-tightening. Could not get it out with ANY wrench. Finally had to cut it out with a Dremel tool cutter.

Now, on any car, I hand-tighten only. If I feel uncomfortable because I don't feel I could get a good enough grip on the filter to tighten it adequately, I might wrench-tighten it another 1/8 turn - but not much more.

Default Screw on the filter until the gasket just contacts the surface and THEN 1/2 to 3/4 more.

Still hand tight and the proper way to do it. I'd swear the techs use a wrench to install it. Thank God it's not an air tool.
