Default Is it best practice to replace flywheel w clutch?

Within the year I'm going to need a new clutch. My mechanic advocates replacing the flywheel, reasoning that you don't want to go back in if it fails later. What do you guys think? I'm new to the world of dual-mass flywheels. Is there an issue with the slip ring wearing? The flywheel is around $800.

Assuming you have a 1.8T and are running a K03 (stock) turbo you can't go wrong with the Valeo single mass clutch kit. I have been running this for around 60k miles with either a big injector (1+) file or a F21L turbo kit putting out ~100 more hp than stock and it has been holding up just fine. Clicky click®

I have to agree, just popped my single mass conversion in last week, and with that youll also save yourself a good amount of money in the long run, seeing as the single mass can be re surfaced and the dual cannot.

At idle in neutral with the clutch in or out, is there any vibration. A mechanic I was speaking to had that happen, something about a dual-mass absorbing some vibration that a single mass does not.

On a different subject, I'm thinking of getting my son an APR software upgrade for his birthday. The 2002 1.8 has 119k on it, and has been well-maintained. Would it be advisable to do a compression check or some other check before proceeding? Thx.

I havent felt any additional vibration going from the dual mass to the single, as for the compression check id go for it if the mech you go to wont rake you over the coals for it.

I have felt a difference, but would do it again. It is not horribly objectionable...
