here's my thought
The audi is extremely close to the face-forward seat for children if they are in the left or right LATCH position. A heavy impact could in theory smash your kid into the screen. and folks like to break windows (glass + baby toys+seat = serious pita).
I was going to go this route; then i got a video player (woot zune) and mounted it with a speaker(woot) and placing it on a belkin tunepower(woot) which doubles its range to 6hours at full 1692kbps WMV video playback. I'll run a power wire from the trunk to power the speakers (battery powered or d/c 5v) and the tunepower (5v). Then i'm taking this XM arm i got and i'am going to make a fold away system that you can hide in the center armrest or so and take the zune out of the car or place it in the trunk so no bishes will steal it. or when you need to take it somewhere.
the 30GB per zune ($79) i got two of them. since if they fail its no biggie to hot swap.
for backup my Mio C310x can play 2GB of XVID/DIVX, my treo 650 can play 4gb of divx/mpeg, my n770 can handle 1gb of video, and my tomtom can handle about 1gb (usa) or 750 meg (western and central europe) of mp4. I have a toshiba 8" dvd player; that straps to the hearest and doesn't quite work since it has no HOLD button and the kid kicks the stop buttons. It uses SD cards so you get about 8hrs of divx/mpeg with no moving parts.
those are my backups. I have found the zune has worked best so far based on actual here you go usage. the wireless sync is nice you can just sync from outside and load new media or podcasts etc.
Otherwise i'd get one of those fancy minivans that have all that meshed into the ceiling.

7 inch widescreens in my S4
I installed 7 inch widescreen monitors in my 2000 S4 headrests and they look very clean. It took about half an hour each to install them and then about the same to run the cables. They're being fed by my video ipod which is mounted on the dash and fed through the stereo via icelink. I've had DVD systems in the past and the ipod route is infinitely better - having instant access to lots of different media is great.
You can get excellent monitors for little money on ebay and if you're handy, it's the way to go.
