Window Regulator or Motor?

Window Regulator or Motor?
My front passenger side window does not go all the way up (or down anymore) and I see that the window regulator on these cars has a tendancy to crap out.
Now here's the question: I can't hear if the motor is turning or not so would you wager that it is the motor instead?
Before you answer, take into account that the window had begun to slope towards the front of the window frame just before the whole thing stopped working. Is this indicative of a bad window regulator? Could the problem be a combination of the two?
I figure that most of you on this forum have had this problem or something similar so I am hoping that someone will have a trick or two for figuring out which it is without me having to take the door apart... I figure I have to take it apart to replace whatever is broken, I don't want to have to do it twice (once to before ordering the parts and once to replace them).
