Default Where to get a new 2.8 engine in SoCAL?

There is a 99 A6 with a 2.8 for sale cheap, but it needs a new engine. The car is in San Diego.

Would anybody know what would be the place where I could get a "new" used engine for it, and preferable they would install it too?

TIA,
Zsolt
PS. I am also cross posting this in the A6 list

Default Does it need a new engine or could it be rebuilt?

Because you could always have the car taken to Eurocode to have the engine rebuilt or have them find you a used one.

Default

They ran it without coolant and fried the engine.

Default so the heads are probably ok

depending on damage you might need a new block or maybe just a bit of machining and a new set of rings

Default Wondering if I should consider it

How much could it cost to get it up and running again?

Default machine shop should charge you $700-$1000 for a rebuild

If you need new pistons, a complete engine rebuild kit is $640 from IPP (http://www.importperformanceparts.net/). If the pistons are fine a re-ring kit is $480.
Beyond that it's just the cost of labor of engine removal and reinstall.
