Default what i have been up to Today.

So, tore into it today,,Flushed the coolant out of the heater core,, it was really brown. Flushed the engine same color, dont think its ever been flushed. Everthing was going fine until i started on the t-stat. Bottom bolt fell out when taking it out and now its gone. So that is all that is holding me up from puttin coolant in and driving. I also think the Write ups in the tech should be updated for newer cars. All in all very easy to do. I swear taking the front bumper off was the hardest part.

Any particular reason you took the whole front end off?

Default Reading the techarticles of how you need to wedge screw drivers to get the water pump out made me...

think i needed more room. If i had known that the newer waterpumps are a complete unit, it would have saved me. I couldnt find a tech article really anywhere that dealt with a 2001. I just thought that taking of the front bumper was normal. In hindsight i can see just how much easier it would have been leaving everything on.

Ah, that makes perfect sense. I vote you update the tech articles then.

Default At least you're in a garage... I'm out in 20* weather, trying to fix some PCV crap...

I have the intake mani pulled, and all these stiff hoses and brittle plastic pieces are pissing me off. I broke a stupid check valve, despite being careful... Argh.

If you're doing PCV work, you should replace those anyway.

Default I hope you replaced that hose that is falling apart and any other old vac lines. yup, on '01, the

water pump is driven by the TB -- which isn't in the tech articles. and, no 4th belt.

yup, taking off the bumper cover is a PITA

Default Good idea. My only question is, how will you keep the caps in place? Glue them on?

To update the tech stuff, get in touch with Kris.

Default I don't know about the A4, but I've done TB jobs on the B5S4 and a UrS6, and it's worth the hassle

If you want to do a complete job, you really should take the time and take the bumper off. Then you can really clean stuff up back there and make sure everything is where it should be.

Also saves your knuckles from being torn to sh*t
