Default What is the general consensus on the R32

Or VW in general. I wanted an S3, but I'd rather have a VR6 and put a turbo kit on it. Supposedly the S3 will be getting the VR6, but I am not sure if I want to wait until MY'06 for a new car. The R32 is really growing on me, but I guess I should at least go drive a GTI first, since I have never driven a VW. So if the R32 is around $30k and the S3 is around $34k(???) then for less than the S3, I could get the R32 and a turbo kit good for ~350-400hp. Just thinking out loud here...

Default depends what u want really...

R32....yes it will be quick but good luck with the cops that are gonna hassle u. S3, high maintenance, and not nearly as fast for the money. BUT U HAVE GOT CLASS! it's a classic example of DO u want go or SHOW.... But...if u want to take it to the extreme, get a 1993-94 240sx swap a sr20det, upgrade turbo, and u will have 400+ hp RWD monster that will out handle the R32 and be faster since less drivetrain loss. U can do all that for probably 15g or less. BAM....can't beat that combo....PLUS it's SLEEPER!

Default It is a sweet-looking car

but it is too heavy for what it is, and its performance suffers for what it is. I would rather have a GTI 1.8T.

Default I like the R32 a lot...

Personally I like the R32 looks over the S3, I'm a big fan of the current GTI platform. The S3 would have a better interior and what-not, but I don't know if that would justify the looks of the new body style S3 (based on spy shots etc, since I doubt we will get the current style...)

The R32 looks like a great daily driver with plenty of potential for power and track use too.

Also, VWoA may bring the 20th anny GTI here, so that may be something to look into if you don't need 4wd. Basically going to be similar to the 337, except different rims, choice on colors, and more of the European appointments that were left off the US bound 337 (xenons, different interior trim, darkened head lamps, different rims, etc...) but still with the 6-spd and 1.8T
