Actually there r many options .....
My previous University has setup a relief fund .... there is a relief fund thru the indian embassy . there is a gujraj relief fund.
I know a lot abotu this because my ffamily is stranded there
My aunts house crumbled and now is living in the streets with no water food or shelter.
She was given one free 30 second call to call and say she is ok. She called after 3 days .... we had other thoughts in our mind ... and had 3 sleepless nights.

Honestly, I'm giving to the American Red Cross.
It's the fastest way to get money there. They do have a lot of overhead, but they are a large organization, and it takes money to run any large organization. Cash donations have historically been the best way to give. This way they can wire the money immediately, and purchase supplies locally.
In the coming months they will also need clothing donations. Contacting a local Indian temple might be a good way to contribute old clothes you want to get rid of. Most of them should know the channels for these types of contributions within a month or so.
I know, it's a little more than you wanted to know, but I thought I would add it anyway...I'm not an expert on charities, so I'll stop here.
