Could the unplugged bank 1 cam adjuster have contributed to this problem?
Some idiot put a bank 2 cam adjuster into bank 1. Cam adjustment on bank 1 was therefore in the wrong direction (not good). Since I discovered this, I've been driving with bank 1's cam adjuster unplugged so that there is no cam adjustment (bank 2 is still plugged in).
Could this adjustment imbalance between bank 1 & bank 2 created an abnormal tension on the belt? Should I unplug both adjusters, or do I really have to change the bank 1 cam adjuster for the right part?

Up to 30 bent valves doesn't sound exciting to me...
I never cease to be amazed at how someone can go through all the trouble to take the car apart to change the timing belt but doesn't get the right tools or doesn't change all the parts that run on it.
I've had a cylinder head rebuilt on another car from damage caused by a water pump failure, never want that to happen to me again!
