Default Those of you that did the airbox horn mod...

I just replaced my horn that was cut by the previous owner... All I have to say is that the car is MUCH easier to drive, has just a wee bit more power and that power is delivered nice and smooth!! Hopefully this cheap *** mod is something that would have attributed to my constant MAF frying which should also be fixed now... Bottom line... Bad mod... Slap the person in the face that thought of it...

On another note, the horn from an AEB will not fit an AWM without minor mods (taking the knubs off) the MAF was rotated about 10 degrees too far, other than that it worked after I knocked the knubs off...

Pictures would be nice for those of us that haven't resorted to pimping our horns know what it is that you are talking about!

Thanks!

Andrew

(I always feel so manly when I use the word 'nice')

Default He's talking about the OE horn on the MAF being cut off vs keeping it stock. Remember that

'cut the horn off its too close to the airbox wall' crap mod from a few years back?

Default He told me ...

I sold him one (a spare from an AEB) ... that the AEB locating 'nubs' (it interlocks with the other half of the MAS housing) are either absent or index differently on his 01. He had to cut those nubs off in order to fit the two pieces together in the proper index on his housing.

Default There's a difference...

My ATW has a shorter horn (allowing more air) compared to my AEB.

I'm guessing Neo simply made the mistake of cutting off too much to the point where the airflow became to turbulent for proper metering.

Can't comment on the nubs though.

Default I didn't do the cutting, got the car like that, plus a longer horn will cause a greater velocity of

airflow into the meter... Audi engineers know what they are doing, that is why I went back to the stock one... Plus it was frying MAF's left and right... A shorter horn will not produce more air...

longer horn doesnt have to do with velocity. it basically gives the air a chance to straighten out.
