Default STFA and no luck: AC Question

2000 A4 1.8T QTip

AC system blows warm air for all temps with fan on high until I go past 63 deg to "LO" setting then it blows cold air. Put WalMart valve on low side and system shows charged.

Any help would be appreciated. Indy shop did tbelt kit from PureMS this winter and this is the first time I'm trying to run A/C since.

Had so few problems with the car in the past year (knock on woood) that I'm having a problem finding my Bentley CD.

Thanks,
David

Default Found the FAQ post: could compressor belt be slipping?

Out of the following reasons only slippage makes sense and could be result of TB job:
Compressor belt is slipping
Outside temp sensor is faulty
Refrigerant pressure is too high or too low
Wire going to compressor clutch is broken

The fact that I do get cold air with temp setting on LO leads me to believe that it is belt. Dash exterior temp shows OK, pressure is fine and if wire to clutch were broken I would never get cold air.

Any easy way to figure out if this is the case? Are there output tests that can be run with a VAG COM?

Still can't find my Benyley CD. Sigh ..

Thanks,
David

I would start with what you found and check each thing. Narrowing it down til you find a solution.

VAG-COM is your friend.

VAG COM showed no codes. Ran the output test (and can't find my Bentley manual so don't know exactly what was supposed to happen) but it seemed to go OK.

Interesting. If it was a C4, I would say this a classic temp flap motor failure. The motor has a reostat built in, and crap builds up and it loses track of where it is.
