Static from front speakers - audio questions
After sitting for a couple of months my wife's 99.5 A4 1.8t is back on the road again. Problem is, the front speakers are now generating quite a bit of static regardless of input source.
It is equipped with the Concert I deck with Bose option. Could someone please tell me if the front speakers have a seperate amp like the rears? Or are they powered from the head unit? If a seperate amp, where is it located?
My thought is a loose connetion, a bad ground somewhere, or possibly the rheostat for the volume **** may be dirty.
Any ideas or tips? Any BTDT for removing the head unit? I notice is has two flat slots on the bottom of the face plate. I gather something must be inserted to release the head unit from the dash?
Thanks!

Bose speakers in our cars are notoriously known for going bad... (more)
The dust caps come unglued from the rest of the speaker. Static is worse in cold weather, gets better/goes away completely when it's hot outside. There was a thread a couple months ago about this, if you search you should be able to find a fix for it, though I forgot who wrote the article on how to fix them.
