Default SC A4 or S4?

I currently drive a 98 A4 2.8. I considered supercharging, but after reading some of the posts it seems the S4 is touted in place of an SC A4. I enjoy the A4 but crave more power, so I began to look for an S4. I found a 2002 S4 with 40K on it. My dilemma comes when I consider the reliability of the S4 to an SC A4 with daily use. Since owning the A4 I do some repairs myself, of coarse with help of posts on this forum. I am not oppose to the professional mechanic, but I enjoy the satisfaction that comes with a DIY. Hence I wonder if I may be jumping from a frying pan into the fire with a finicky S4. I know some may advocate something more modern but I am stuck in the past on the B5 model. I would like to hear from the B5 SC A4ers, S4ers and 1.8Ters. "Opinions are like orifice, we all have some" Mine the B5 model says class.

Confused.
Are you saying that you can DIY on an A4 with an aftermarket supercharger, but not on an S4?
The stock S4 is less reliable than an A4 with an aftermarket charger?

LOL

Well allow me too ask is the A4 supercharge much different than when it is not? Maybe I am reading into the posts, but it seems to me that an S4 is more intricate that the A4.

Are you asking me? Your post looks like a response to me, but it is not in the right place in the thread. Please try switching to threaded view or at least posting responses in the correct place in the thread.

A factory installed system is almost always going to be more reliable than an aftermarket retrofit. I'm not sure what part of the S4 you think is more intricate than the A4, but assumming that you mean the engine, I'll agree. But the two engines are basically the same, one just has turbos bolted on and some additional engine managment to provide better feedback to the ECU and better control.

For power and reliability, I'll take the S4 any day.

SC gives you a pretty nice power bump but thats it. The S4 has more potential for a lot more power.
