replacing a syncro. How much $?
I believe that my second gear syncro is starting to go bad. It is much much harder to get into gear than it ever hase. Can I take it to an independent tranny shop or does it have to go the dealership? What do you think it will cost to have it replaced?

change your tranny fluid first and see if that helps the situation...
if not, THEN start looking into repairing/replacing.
Redoing syncros is not cheap cuz you have to pull the tranny out, then tear it apart... not cheap, not easy

I got a 2001 1.8T manual tranny with 39K on it for 520 shipped :)
Installed it myself - It can be done in a weekend, but you tend to get stuck on stupid crap. I had to wait a week to get replacement drive axle washers that didn't survive the operation
