Default Replaced 2 lower front control arms last night. . .

Aside from messing with the subframe and banging on the old ones to get them out, not a bad job. Granted I had access to a lift and fancy tools, but. . .=)

While we were working on it (this was at a VW shop) this former Audi Tech walked by and said, "What year?"
"98.5" I replied, expecting him to know the difference between the years.
"Ooooh, 'and a half'. Real special" in a real smart *** voice. "Oooooh, you've got one piece headlights. You are sooo cool" also dripping with sarcasm.

I wanted to knock his teeth down his throat. What a *****. This kid is also going around town telling as many Audi owners as he can that lowering directly leads to control arm problems.

Damn Audi mechanics. . .

Default Yep. Just goes to prove, just because one works at a dealer, does not mean...

that they know their a$$ from a hole in the ground.

Default what a douche bag...

btw, its braking temperatures that cause the grease in the control arm to dryout (and the seal to crack), not lowering.

model year 2000 got updated grease packing and different boot material. mine have started to sqeak at 67k miles. i brake very hard though....

Default To get the bolt out of the lower curved one

you may have to drop the subframe a bit. Other than that it's not too bad. You may have to bang on them to get them dislodged as well. Might be tough on jack stands though. . .
