Default Rebuilding 1.8T - go forged?

Found a new AEB 1.8T. Planning to just reinstall a GT28RS turbo and make about 255 whp. The engine was a factory return for bad bearings so it's coming apart for a rebuild. The question is, since the engine already has the head and rod bearings off, should we put forged rods or pistons in at this point? With the relatively low HP we're looking for it seems like a pointless expense.

Default stock pistons are forged, they are fine, but the rods are so cheap

i would replace them for peace of mind.

Default They'll take ,at the very least, 600hp. Doesn't seem that weak to me--->

how many of us on here are making more than 300hp anyways??? There's a hand full of us.

Default Scat Rods are chit and pointless unless you have them balanced...

they are indeed visually balanced, but when inspected you will usually find most are far from being even close. So after you get them you have to have them fully balanced again if you care about having a balanced engine and are not going to take the next steps and having it blueprinted and fully balanced. But to each his own.

Default Arrow > Rosten > Pauter > Scat.

Arrow... The cost is STUPID high, but they are on a custom basis, IMHO the best you can buy. Made in the UK, laser etched and fully machined, double air re-melt steel forgings. I-Beam or H-beam. About $2200 for steel. also available in a 6AL-4V Ti forged version, very light and about $3400. That would be for 6, I don't remember the cost of 4.

Rosten... Made in Norway, fully forged 40CrNiMo H-Beam design, come with ARP 2000 bolts, direct fit. Decent price and great quality. Contact me if you are interested in these, I can put you in good hands.

Pauter, made in the USA, forged 4340 chromo "rib" design, direct fit.

Scat is cheapest and will be just fine for the power you are looking to run.
