Default PRoblems......'99 A4 Quattro

While driving yesterday my car went dead in the middle of the road. I ahve only had it for 6mnths.......the timing belt tensioner was lose was on my way to fix it, then the car died. I looked at the timing belt....still there in one piece....it sounds like it wants to start , but it just wont budge....batt is coo, fluids all good, any ideas on what it may be? Have little to no experience w/ cars.......my first car.

thanks,
sanet

timing belt probably skipped teeth. it was a very bad idea to drive with a lose tensioner.

Default sounds expensive $$$$$

might have damaged the valves and/or pistons! Have it towed in, don't try to crank it.

Default Did you really need a new thread less than 2 hours after you posed the first one?

Default So the timing belt tensioner was failing and you drove the car anyway?

And the car broke down? I'd be too embarassed to post once, never mind twice.

Default Yeah, you really should not have driven on failing TB tensioner. Should have had it towed anywhere

it needed to go the second you learned the tensioner was loose and failing. Thats probably a mistake you'll only make once.
