Default Pressure testing friends A4, cant find the massive leak....

So I am trying to help a friend out whose A4 has been running like crap. Basically it has no low end power and only builds a bit of boost higher up in the RPMS...going up a hill it can barely get out of first gear. I can hear the turbo trying to spool but usually only gets up to like 3-4psi. Today I hooked up my DIY pressure tester to try to find leaks. Well I found the problem...my compressor wont even pressurize the system as quickly as the leak drains the air. So I cant listen for a leak because the compressor is on and since it doesnt pressurize I cant listen for the leak after I turn the compressor off. I have checked all the main lines and hoses in the intake system and havent found any obvious problems. To me it almost feels like when I had my IC hose come off my FMIC and my car lost power. Any thoughts or ideas on how to track down the problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Default Pressurize an air tank, then check it.

Old propane tanks work great. Very cheap to fit a little schrader valve block to them.

I don't know how feasible or good for the car it would be buuuutt....you *could* fill a tank with smoke/dye/CO2...etc...something you could "see" coming out of the affected area. Maybe some UV dye like they use for A/C systems with a cheap pen light/goggles. I'm sure something could be rigged up.
