Possibly picking up an Audi, help wanted
Hey guys, I'm going to look at a 2000 Audi A4 1.8t Quatro 5-speed tomorrow. Looks to be in nice condition with a few exterior blems, but that's fine with me. It has 60K miles, has a new clutch and clean interior. Only problem is it has a CEL on, for code P0422. I know this is for main cat below threshold. I am assuming it has a stock cat and therefore it is dead. So I can either replace it with a stock cat or get a highflow and do the spark plug non-fouler mod correct? Please let me know on this, as it is the only thing I have in question. Finally, he is asking on only $4500 for it. Let me know what else to check for.
Thanks guys!

Have the car scanned at an indi shop to find out what else is wrong with it. $4500 is a little high unless it has zero other issues. Has the timing belt/water pump/t-stat been dont yet? Very important that it has been done especially at the cars age.

Umm I don't think the water pump and such have been done as it only has 60,000 miles on it, I thought that was more of a 100K mile deal? Can I ask why I should bring it to an Audi shop to get it scanned instead of say Autozone? I would think a generic OBDII reader would pick up all the codes, as that's pretty much what an inspection station does. Just curious, as I am new to these cars.
Thanks,
Bill
