Default Performance comparison: A4 chipped vs A4 chipped, exhaust, lltek induction (more)

I have APR v3.0, APR Exhaust, LLetk Induction Kit, and 17" Wheels. I always compare the performance of my car to my friends car. We both have a 99.5 A4 1.8TQMS. He only has the APR chip and stock size wheels. When we race, he just pulls right up on me and then just runs away from me. This was also with an extra person in his car.

One thing that I have noticed is that I am only seeing 15 in/Hg of vacuum and he is seeing about 20 or 21. I don't know if the vacuum is the problem or could it be the 17's? Are they slowing me down that much? I would think that we should be at least identical in speed.

If anyone could give me any help in diagnosing this problem I would greatly appreciate it. I would like to find out what is wrong before I have to take out the intake and chip so I can go to the dealer so he doesn't blame it on that even though the vacuum was the same before anything was done to the car.

My car has also been doing alot of tapping at idle lately. Anyone else have this?

Thanks in advance,
Ed
Ed

Default sounds like a leak!

if you arent getting as much vac pressure that is usually an indication there is a leak somewhere. Check your boost tap in connections.

Default I am using a VDO gauge.

I am seeing the correct boost pressure, just not the vacuum. I already checked all my hoses and put new ties on them all.
Ed

Default Then it's the diverter valve. It's too weak for your setup.

and is releasing your boost. Get either MC's upgraded valve (handles 1.5 bar) or a Bailey Valve.

Default did the intake actually help...

I have always been skeptical... hot air in an engine bay etc etc.
what temp was the outside air when you did this drive?

Default My butt dyno tells me it did with bottom end, but who really knows.

The run was done with a temperature of about 68 to 70 deg F. We ran them multiple times with the same results.
Ed

Default I bought one from MC a while ago, but haven't received it yet.

Do you think that this valve could really make that much of a difference.
Ed
