yes, in a GM engine with an M1 EP oil.
I wanted to know because I ended up putting in my wife's Saab 97X that has a GM Vortec engine.
I wanted to use M1 5w40 TDT, but Pepboys was out of stock because they were doing the 5 qts + oil filter for $24.99 after a $5 mail-in rebate.
I wasn't going to go down the street to pay $7/qt.
After seeing this report, I won't be going to the 10k that I was hoping for with this oil. 5000-7500 range might be all it's good for.

http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Mobil_1_Extended_Performance_5W-30.aspx</a

it's to lower maintenance costs. look at that report with an oil that claims that it's good for 15k
what do you think is going to happen in your bimmer?
it's not that much $ for oil twice a year.

Are you using alot of fuel additives? Do you have a chip?
Detonation and/or funky fuel could draw out lead. Your EP thickened a lot, and the extra visc did not even seem to help. Probally getting high oxydization. If you are really hammering the engine, especially when cold, that would also bring out a lot of lead wear.
Aluminum is still very low, I wonder if it tracks with bearing wear in this application. High Moly formulas usually help with lead wear, not here. I think the oil is still too thin. I would go 5w-40 or 10w-40 or 15w-40 HD and resample. Plain Pennzoil Yellow is a good starting point, maybe the 10w-30 in winter and 10w-40 in summer, at 6000 miles. M1 EP is a total skiparoo. For kicks, try M1 0w-40 at the same interval, that would be interesting.
