Default Oil change time. Need filter recommendation.

It's been years since I've done my own oil since I've been driving new cars. Nevertheless, it's time to change the oil on my newly acquired '01 Avant 1.8TQMS. What's everyone using for an oil filter these days?

I always prefer factory filters or German OEM types such as Mahle or Mann. Usually I'll order these online, primarily autohauseaz.com, but there are plenty of sources. However, if you have a VW or Audi dealer nearby, take a printout of an online price and see what the parts guy will do, often they'll match it to keep from loosing sales to the online folks.

Avoid the FRAM.

NAPA Gold filter (made by Wix). On a 1.8T you need the larger "diesel motor" filter that was recommended later to prevent sludge.

Joe at Axis motorsport. Buy a few oversize filters.

As Mick says, avoid Fram at all costs.

Our oil change kits include Mann and Mahle filters. I wouldn't use or recommend anything else.
