No, I'm talking about the car sitting for a year or two. I've seen on engines that have poor grounds where there was evidence of arcing. We all know how wonderful the wiring can be in these cars. ; ) I like to clean the contacts at the block and firewall just in case, as well as the one off the alt and battery ground. Probably just a production flaw when casting/forge process.
With a 176k, changing out the chain is a no-brainer. Check the tdc cam marks, you'll probably find its stretched a fair bit. If you do change it out, warning, the chains I've gotten out of Worldpac are china Iwis knock offs(very loose, not nearly as tight and well made as the German versions). I'd get one off of Carson(or the like).
I find those chain guide tensioner rail don't wear as much as just snap and end off when they give up. The ones on say a 911 tend to have somewhat softer rails. If you can change out the rails , at that mileage its not a bad idea.
If you have the cams pulled you could clean them up a bit with some crokus cloth. Its not going to take care of the pitting but it will clean up some of the scoring to a degree.
Regards

nope. But that is a job I wouldn't even begin to tackle...
basically slippery slope...
might as well pull the head and rebuild it at that point, new head gasket, new studs...
money $$$
