i tried this procedure with a VW 2002 jetta. I think my car has the same problem. i had a heck of a time removing the wiper arms. It took a lot of force. After i had the wiper arms removed, i turned on the wipers and felt the splines. the drivers side got pretty hot after a while. so i am thinking that side is ceased. Anyway, i stoppped taking it apart because when i was going to take the plastic off to expose the linkage, it seemed stuck to the windshield. Do i just pull it off? is it glued on to the window? Any advice?

thanks for the write up and instructions.. I wasn't fully succesful, but did manage to get my wipers to move more similar to speed they should go at. Everything went well until the step when I had to remove the wiper mechanism from the car, I couldn't get it out despite removing the top of the black box 'EUC'? It looked like not a good idea to knock this around as you said in your instructions, so i just put the top back on it and sprayed WD40 all over the joints of the arms/mechanism.

Thanks for the write-up... I've got an identical issue on my 2004, drivers-side and all. The joint is currently soaking in PB, hopefully it will break free after a full night of that.
