MotorTrend Article on Coil Packs
My friend at work says she saw a recall notice in her Motor Trend this month.
Is that the case?
Has Audi relented?
If this has been covered here already, can someone post a link?
Thanks,

Not a recall per se...
I think they refer to it as a voluntary replacement or something like that on the Audi website. A recall is a safety mandate by NHTSB. Anyway, as Pete said, didn't give an exact date but Audi is hoping to have it done by March (or is it May) of this year...there is a write-up in the FAQs on audiusa.com...check it out...
Oh, and I hear that people who have already had them replaced prior to the voluntary replacement have been receiving fruit baskets and gift certificates from Audi.

Here's the actual press release from the AoA site but...
no dates are given! I can't even find the date this press release was actually realeased. But, it does state:
<i>"Soon customers will be notified by mail that Volkswagen and Audi will proactively begin replacing all ignition coils in cars potentially affected, whether a failure has occurred or not. This action will begin in the coming months as soon as replacement ignition coil supply volumes will allow."</i>
My dealer still refuses to proactively replace them yet (as of Fri 04 APR 2003).
