Motor mounts, snub mount
On the longitudinal engine, does the snub mount in the front really do a lot?
I notice the shifter is moving quite a bit. I would think the engine mounts on the side are the first culprits? Or the transmission mounts?
Where to start replacing? And which versions to use?
OEM and RS4 seem cost prohibitive ($100 each or so)!

It's a common upgrade to replace it with an upgraded version. I upgraded mine when I did the first timing belt job as it's easier when in service position.
APR used to sell an upgraded one for around $40. It does help with the rocking back and forth but careful installing it as it may allow more vibration into the cabin. You have to install the mount but leave it loose and tighten it with the motor running to get the best position.

By now both your transmission mounts and engine mounts could also be due for replacement. Check the engine mounts for leakage.

A new snub mount will definitely stiffen up the shifting.
We the APR snub mount available below.
