Default manual swap

i have a a4 b5 1.8t auto im looking into a manual swap. i know that mechanically b5 passats are very similar. would a b5 passat 1.8t engine and tranny fit in my car or would it be too much of a hassle? im asking because as ive been looking for a parts car the passats are mu h more common than the a4's

B5's are cheap. Swaps are expensive. Find a nice stick quattro, buy it, and sell your car.

just buy a manual trans thats for the 1.8t a4, could find a used one for a decent price, or go to a salvage yard and find one that was crashed, theyre usually only a few hundred for the trans, and if you have the know how to swap it shouldnt be hard at all

And what about the wiring? Will you replace the trans wiring harness? Recode the ECU not to look for the TCU? What about the engine? How will you get a clutch to bolt up without changing the crank?

This project is possible if enough money and time is expended, but it's quicker and cheaper to buy what you want and sell what you have.

Which is why it is such a bad idea. Not sure why you are so stuck on this idea when you could swap cars for a fraction of the cost. Glutton for punishment? lol

What wiring? Manual only has 3 sensors on the tranny. Why reprogram the ECU? Simply put the ECU in from the same car, problem solved.

Very simple. You grind some of the crank flange to allow the flywheel to sit flush on the flange. This has been done a few times on both the A4 1.8t and Passat 1.8t. There is even a nice DIY write up on how to do it on the A4.

The TIP to manual swap is not all that hard.

There is a girl in San Diego named Lottie that also had the exact same thing on her b5.5 Passat 1.8t by a Audi tech freind of hers which now works for Pure Motorsports.
