Default Lock Problem solved- I hope this helps.

For those of you that helped me last week, thank you.

I had a problem with my power door locks (98 A4), everything worked great except for the drivers key, it would not lock the entire car (only the drivers door).

What it turned out to be was a wire on the harness within the door was somehow cut. I dont know how it happened, but I repaired the cut and it works great. Behind where you put the key in is the lock assembly.

On top of the lock assembly sits a small plastic switch that has two functions (send a lock signal and send and unlock signal). This switch is connected to a wire about 3 feet long that plugs into a harness towards the front of the door (under the door panel). My problem was the harness that the switch cable plugs into. The wire was cut.

Your problem could also be that switch, it may not be sending the signal to the vacuum pump/ locking system.

If this sounds like your problem and you want more information/ more detail, let me know (Email me) and I will get you more information.
