Default I'm having serious thoughts of getting a 325IX 5 speed and "converting it" into a Touring.

The body lines are simple enough that between myself and the GREAT body shop guy I know that I could make my own wagon (touring)

A lot of work.... but i figure most any of the ones I'd get would need paint anyway. I think I'll find one in Colorado or Cali so it's clean as far as rust goes. Maybe even a two door AWD/IX so I'd have a sweet two door wagon - Audi RS2 style*ish.

Default are there any issues I should know about? Here's a list of stuff he's replaced in the last 6months.

Rack & pinion
New oil pan & gaskets
1 front & 1 rear wheel bearings

Car has no CELs & doesn't leak anything, but the speedometer doesn't work (aside from the tach). He's always taken care of the car so I'm def looking forward to fixin her up a little.

Default A couple of things...

The front sway brackets are crap and to really fix them you need to weld in better brackets. The valve covers leak constantly on any one i have ever seen. The window regulators are **** too. Other then that they are pretty solid. I have some fuel pump wiring problems were it randomly cuts out but i just reach under the seat and jiggle the wires and it comes back on.

Default thanks for the heads up. Seems like a lot of issues with this car seem to stem from

some sort of faulty/loose wiring.

Default a comment.....

Nice, good luck with it. I've had a few E30's many years ago and had great luck with them(read:bullit proof car). They really have very few poor qualities except for the 2wd models being somewhat horrid in the winter(even wt snows and weight in the trunk). Hopefully, your "is" has LSD. The bentley manual for the E30 is not terrible either, the factory version is better but this is usually the case. Congrats on the purchase.

Default lol... so sad, but so true at the same time...

and ontop of it, when the project car breaks, the daily is out in the cold/hot while the beater gets worked on

The 4000 has occupied more garage space than the A4 in the past year due to the motor swap and repairs thus far... not fun.
