You mean the turn signal part of 2-piece headlights? There's a clip that holds it in place at the back, the turn signal and headlight slide together.

Yes it does. First disconnect the battery whenever you're going to pull an air bag. But it's air bag, steering wheel (do yourself a favor and mark the position of the wheel on the steering shaft before you pull it) and a lot of small screws to get the signal assembly off.

I think Edwardo is thinking of the two piece headlight/turn signal on the early B5's.

There is no reason to disconnect the battery to pull an airbag. Turning off the key does the exact same thing.

You sure 4driver4? Can't you make an air bag light with the battery still connected?

Air bag control unit powers up with the key. It also has internal capacitors to give it a few more seconds of power in a sudden power loss.

It's safer to turn the key off and go get a coffee or beer before proceeding than it is to shut down the car, disconnect the battery and jump right in.

Maybe that's why I threw an air bag light when I did that job once. I was out of beer.
