How to disconnect Daytime Running Lights
I've searched the threads and FAQ, and don't seem to be able to find specific instrux for a 2001 which uses the fogs as DRL. I read about taping relay 209 but i couldn't find that one under the dash. anyone done this on a 2001? I have imported my car to europe and need to remove the DRL's since fog lights are illegal to run here unless there is fog!!! thx very much.

For the DRL function there are two relays. One is number 373 (or 214, function is identical) and should be in slot 8. The other one, normally labeled 209, should be in slot 9. This is where you would insert the bridge mentioned in the tech article. (When in doubt, search for the part number - should be 443 951 253 A for #209.)
Note that all of this is for the pre-1999.5. Since your car is post-1999.5, things may be a little different.
Are you sure it's the fog lights that come on in DRL mode? If it's just the headlights that come on, you should be fine leaving everything as it is. Since Switzerland recommends driving with the headlights on even during the day (many other European states follow, and in some it is mandatory), having DRL in your car may not be such a bad idea after all.
In fact, I added DRL to my 1998 B5 for this reason (I live in Italy). I wired mine up like the models sold in Scandinavia are, which should be identical to the Canada setup for that MY.

your system is different than what others have posted here......
the control unit is behind the glove box. this tech shows how to make a US specs car have independent fogs. imo you need to get a US specs control unit to replace the one you have or you may want to get a euro spec one when you get there.<ul><li><a href="https://www.audiworld.com/tech/ext11.shtml">https://www.audiworld.com/tech/ext11.shtml</a</li></ul>

Then the article on disabling the DRLs won't work on your car.
The article is for systems which use the low beams as DRLs, so I expect yours will be quite different from that.
Having read the fog article - the DRL feature might be in the control module for the fogs. You could check at your local dealership if there are different versions of the module for Canada and other markets - in that case you might need to replace the module.

Re: tx
no, my first B5 i bought and drove in Germany, the one I have now I bought here in Italy. I got the wiring diagram and part list for the DRLs from the dealership for my first B5 and transplanted everything into the new one when I changed cars.
