Default Hi guys, really need your help here. I'm having overheating issues(searched already)...

Took my car in to my indie mechanic today to have an alignment done, coolant flushed and brake fluid changed. I drove for 1hr+ on the highway then 20min or so of city driving before I arrived at the shop and car was running fine. Dropped off keys and when I returned they said that there was a problem. When they went to pull the car into the shop it started leaking coolant everywhere. The coolant had boiled over. With the car just sitting and idling the temp would just keep climbing past normal. They tried replacing the thermostat but it didn't help. They also checked for leaks and found none. The bottom of the rad was cool and the top was super hot. They suggested that the rad may be blocked. There is pressure in the system and they said that they didn't think it was the water pump but were unsure of what the problem is. We ran out of time today so I'm without my car for the wekend....grrrrr.
I'd really appreciate any help or suggestions.
My car is a 97 A41.8tQA with a wett chip, High flow cat and no other major mods. There hasn't been any work done to the cooling system for a while and I haven't added any coolant or noticed any overheating whatsoever. In other words everything was working fine even in 30 degree C plus weather.
Please Help!!

That almost sounds like you have some air to bleed out of your coolant system.

Same exact thing happened to me. Some indie shops don't have the proper vacuum to get all the air out

That's what I thought, Could the head gasket really be the problem?
