no bent valves?.... that sounds great. thanks for the input. I have ordered the kits/tools. I will degrease the entire engine area while I am waiting on their arrival. I will post on progress.
Thanks again.

Broken chain and plastic piece on chain tensioner
Removed valve cover on drivers side.
I found a broken cam chain and plastic piece on chain tensioner. The plastic/urathane/whatever piece was chewed up into about 5-6 pieces.
The picture will show the alignment on the intake cam shaft (this is with the crank shaft at TDC)
The exhaust cam was sitting in a manner that none of the cam ramps* were pushing down on a valve lifter, or at least this was the case when I found it, anyway.
*I don't know the proper term for the cam nubs/angle/ramp, ramps sounds like a good name.
The good thing is, that this totally explains the cam sensor code, due to the exhaust cam not moving at all.
The million dollar question is:
Now, what are the odds I have bent valves?
I'll be buying a new chain, but what about the cam chain tensioner/adjuster? Can/should/is it even possible to buy the plastic top piece for the cam chain adjuster?
I am assuming I"ll need to run the engine to do a proper compression test.
??? thanks, guys.
where's the best place for an inexpensive cam adjuster?

another pic
Should I just go ahead and finish the job; seals/belt/chain+++, then run it. Or take the head off to prepare for valve bendage? (yep, I know thats not a real word)
thanks again.

You can take the cams out, which will close all the valves and do a leak down test to see if anything is bent. That's probably where I'd go.
I have a head if you need one, but if I were you I'd check that and fix it if need be.

Cam lobes BTW.
This is rare! I've never heard a motor runing with, for lack of a better term, a seized exhaust cam. I'm not a gambling man, but this would be a good one to bet on for bent valves. I'd take 4driver4's advice and start in on that compression test asap. Maybe you got lucky?

The chain is broken. Mos def.
The chain adjuster lost both top and bottom plastic pieces. The top face of the adjuster has marks/dent from the chain. I am assuming this dent is from the moment of the break, maybe even the cause of the break.
Is it possible to assume the adjuster is fine, given the chance that I can find someone who sells the plastic pieces and they fit on securely? I read a thread where someone found them. The question is where?
I am heading out now to find/build/beg/borrow or steal a leak down testing device..
..cams are removed. I opened up the other bank and found that the marks were all aligned and everything looks to be in order.

People looking for:
cam chain tensioner / adjuster pads, I found this ->
https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho....php?t=2753469
They are on ebay....$59 for 2. I might as well do the other side too, while its open.
but, 1st I'll check with the leak down test.
