Default Help!! My concerto sounds like a Beethoven knockoff.

Went to Al & Ed's Autosound to upgrade my 98.5 stock Concert stereo (new amp (50Wx4 $579) & MB Quart's w/ adaptors in front doors (5 1/4 separates; $519) and in the back deck (6 1/2 coaxial $279). For someone who just left a sony/pioneer/alpine system behind, this seems really expensive. Any suggestions on how to cut down the cost? Is this system worth it? How will I ever convince my wife to spend this kind of cash? HELP.

Default Cough up the dough, Wolfgang.

With a car like the A4, how can you skimp on the real goodies. MB Quart's have no substitute in the A4.

I went with the Boston Accoustics (also sold at Al&Ed's. About 75% of the price and sound just as good.

Default you will have no low freq with that setup....try this:

Decent 50x4 amp should be less than $350...try RF, MTX, or Kicker. For $579, you should be getting a PPI PC450 or a/d/s 440...maybe McIntosh non-metered 50x4.
Front speaks: many of us have used coaxial or coincident speakers because the poor location of the front tweeter relative to the woofer. A guy in England claims to have gotten the stock locations to sound good USING A VERY EXPENSIVE TIME-ALIGNMENT PROCESSOR from ALPINE. I went with Eclipse Pointsource...should be less than $190. Adapters should be $25. a/d/s coaxes sound awesome...$350, i believe. You'll like what you hear with coaxes or coincidents.
Rear speaks: Don't need 'em. The A4 is too small for that, unless you like the SOUND, SOUND, SOUND, everywhere SOUND! type listening. If you must, just do rear fill: 6 1/2 mids in the rear deck...should be less than $150.
Sub: You can get the JL Audio stealthbox (takes the place of the rear speaks) for $579...i did. Otherwise, a custom rear deck with infinite baffle 10" or 12" sub should cost you around $400-$500 if it's done well.
So: AMP ($350) + FrontSpeak ($215) + Sub (~$500) + labor ($200-$300 or more if you want fancy amp rack). Might even have enough now for a new head unit.
Do it yourself & save the labor (I did), the FAQ will guide you...

steve
