Took me forever to get the upper control arms out, too. Then I got smart and realized that if I used my jack to push the rotor up and change the angles it was easier.

Wow,, you have done a lot of extra work. Someone needs to add to the FAQ....
that all you need to do is jack up the hub and it falls right out. I know this has been mentioned before by others as well as myself.

Change the whole shaft
Advance Auto Parts (or Discount Auto), new CV axle, $60, no core needed.
I had both inner and outer boots split, and it was more than worth it to replace the half shaft.
BTW, if anyone needs inner and outer boots, I've got a set waiting for you.
