Default Help Appreciated! Door lock question, 98 A4

Hi,

I am having a problem with the door lock setup with my 98 A4 2.8Q.

I can unlock all doors with the key (in the drivers door). But, I cannot lock all of the doors (or arm the alarm) with the key in the drivers door. The passenger door works well- locks and unlocks. The inside switches also lock and unlock as they are supposed to.

I took the door panel off and I didnt notice anything that looked strange, but I am not very familar with this setup.

This is very frustrating. If anyone has any information I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Default It may be the lock assembly...

I called the dealer, talked to a mechanic and he was very helpful. It sounds like the drivers door lock assembly is bad. This sends the signal to the pump to lock all doors and arm the alarm. The only problem, the part is $140 and you need to remove the window regulator to fix it.

I am going to try cleaning it first. I wonder if the passenger's door lock assembly is an interchangeable part? I would rather try it with that one (and maybe permanently use the passengers side assembly) than paying $140 for a chance for it to work.
