Default Headlights not working

I have a 1996 A4 quattro (2.8L) with manual transmission. While driving back home at night, the headlights switched off automatically including the fog lights. Only the parking lights, turn lights and tail lights were working. All other components (temp. control lights, inside lighting., dash board lights etc) kept working as normal. However, the headlights & high beam lights refused to turn on; even though the swicth was in 'on' position.

What could be the possible cause? Where should I start looking into?

Default Before you replace, try cleaning contacts with electronic cleaner spray...

..prolly temporary fix, but at least might work until you get new switch home. Anyway, as quattrokiwi said, it's all been said and done. FAQ and Tech Articles are your friends.

Did you replace the switch? I have not done this before but after going through the article does not look bad. How do I get the exact part number to order? Also any suggestions for online shops that are reliable?

Default Link, again easy fix, dont buy the new switch!

This is so easy man, again I did it in twenty mins max.

Go there then hit Cont F then type "Headlight Switch Repair" and it will find it. If not its about 20 down on that list. The

https://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec.html</a
