Default Got a case of the bad axles - need help!

So I was halfway through a theoretically simple half axle repair job this afternoon when I realized that the part I bought from Advance Auto Parts (AAP) was the wrong axle. Their database called for AAP part number CV2017, shown in the picture (top). We looked through the database (with poor quality pictures) and settled on one that's listed for an automatic trans - part # CV1734. So that's on its way to me, but I have my doubts that it's the right one.

Has anyone had experience with this store when replacing axles and know which one actually works? I know Raxles is another supplier of quality parts, but I'm already invested in AAP (they kindly removed the price of the core from my receipt). Any comments are appreciated - I need this car running again ASAP, and the new part is still about a week away.

I'm replacing the front axle assembly on a 5 speed 2001 B5 1.8T AWM.

I was following these guides:

Automatic trannys use a different axle. Get the right one. ECS has them: http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_A4-...in/Driveshaft/

Too bad. Looking at the joint it the picture, it is clear those boots were neglected for a long time.

Most people prefer Raxels for replacement.

I just did this job today. I got mine from Napa, took about a week. $80 each after core return. www.rockauto.com has them cheap too. I did both sides and they didn't have both at the same warehouse so the double shipping made napa cheaper.

Generally good advice.

I looked around on Fenco's website and found a picture for CV1732, which appears to be the right one. Should get here in time for me to reattempt the install next Monday. If it's not right, I'll probably buy from rockauto, though I didn't think to check with NAPA.
