fuel mpg
Hey guys,
My 2001 Audi A4 Quattro ATQ is using quite a bit of fuel. It's been like this since I got it.
City Driving I get about 15L/100km - 6.8 KM/L - 16 MPG.
Is this average or could something be wrong.
My CEL is not on, but I'm wondering, could the O2 sensors be bad. my VAG COM is on order and am waiting to get it. Will the car have trouble codes for which the CEL doesnt come on.

I was wondering, because I don't drive the car hard. I don't have any CEL light on, but could there be something wrong with my pre cat o2's. I read something about that and that it would affect mileage. would there be any codes stored if CEL doesnt come on?

yeah the HWY is not bad. at 110km/h, it averaged 10L/100km dead on, so tht was good.

what fuel are you using ? 87, 89, or 91
I have seen a lot of people tanking 87 to their Audi cars, which min it is recommended 91, just few days ago I have seen guy at the gas station tanking Audi S5 with 87 octane
I have been using 91, and on V6 auto I get on avg 13.4 L/100 to 14L/100 in city on hwy I get better mileage 10L /100, in summer time I get about 12 l/100 in city on hwy I get 9 l/100

you guys have 87 octanic gas? 89?:/
minimum i can find is 95 (student did a test on samples and they have 93 octane) and 100 carrera (97 octane) .
Thats low quality gas;
My manual sais i must use 95 unleaded.
Lower quality fuel = higher fuel consumption.
I get X power using a 95 fuel and i get Y power burning 89 fuel, Y being lower then X.
Try using highest octane you can find and add additive to increase its octane number.
I have a friend with a VW Gold V 2L gassoline using 98 Carrera and he ads octane additive at each fill, he gets around 6L per 100km on highway. Ofcourse using all those 350HP increases to 15L or even 30L .
My dads employes driving trucks use gas with 85 octane. USA has that low quality fuel?

thats alot, A4 B6 quattro 3.0 V6 240HP Chip gets 14 city 8 outside. I actually drove it 250km to my university`s town when i had the car in service.
Been reading several posts since i read this one about mpg today and i noticed US car owners keep saying fuel cons. around 25% more then european car owners with engines the same size.
This needs to be studied more
I forgot to say the golf is a GTI ...
Someone should take a sample of gasoline of 87,89 and 91 and do a real test and see what the octanic number actually is.
If 95 here is around 92-93 then your 87 must be around 84-85. Thats the same gasoline cars in the 70` used (V8 4.000cmc with 80HP) cause of low fuel quality.
Fork K models used 35 octanic gas. Thats why they could`nt drive up a hill longer then 30m.
Anyone with a 1.8T 150hp non modified to give a real mpg or km per Litter test?
And please no diesels...
*i forgot to say the tests were done by a friend on a local forum studining chemistry, they were done together with his teacher and presented to the authorities later on demanding the real octane number be shown at pumps. Ofcourse goverment didnt want that...

My 2000 1.8t apr chipped with borla catback
gets 20-22mpg city and 25-28mpg highway. I run either 91 octane or 93. Just depends what they have at the particular station. Bit of advice though, I would not run anything lower than 91 unless youre looking to waste money and performance.
