Default Engine turns over but won't start

It has been hesitating on starts lately in the colder temps, and yesterday finally would just turn over but not catch.

There is a smell of gas, so I know it's not the fuel system.

Also, if I press the gas to the floor and turn it over 10-20 times, it will start and run normally. So I know it's not the plugs/coilpacks, etc.

Taking it in tomorrow for scheduled service anyway, just wondered if the great AW brain can help in the meantime.

Default Interesting - my temp gauge has not been able to reach its happy place for months now

on the flipside, my fuel economy has never been better... related?

Default When mine went bad, the needle still displayed the right temp

But the car had lots of trouble starting. It's something like a $25 part which is an easy DIY, so it's a good place to start with troubleshooting.

Default Nope, I'm running the one that you made for me

It's amazing how many people look at it and think it's a factory piece. Nice work!

Default Oh yeah. I forgot that I did one for you.

I was about to offer you a spare pillar that I have sitting in my garage.

Good stuff.

Nope, all looks good. Pulled the plugs, found oil. Leaking valve cover gasket.

Default I think he meant if you have a....

...CEL while youur ignition is on (cause you should have a CEL on). If you don't, the problem is usually either bad ECU or for example your chip needs to be reseated, resoldered.
