Crazy ?: Anyone running stock w/chipped only? You know, before you went all-out...

what's to figure out?
go home, pop the ECU out and check the model #
if you're over-anxious, send it out to a GIAC dealer to get chipped tomororow... there may even be one near you.
otherwise, start checking the AW and AZ classifieds religiously to find a used one.

each gear will pull as hard as the one below it used too....
so 2nd gear chipped pulls as much G force as 1st did stock.
Also do not get the GIAC chip I have an 01 with a CH ecu. I have owned the car since it was new and have put 113,xxx miles on it so far. In the past 6 years I have had over 15 different GIAC files in two cars. All of them did not work well other than maybe WOT, but thats only some times. 4 of the pump gas programs left the car inoperable due to over boosting.
I have had one APR program it started on a bone stock car and then I added many other mods. It ran flawlessly and had maybe ever better driveability than stock.
I have had one MTM program. It overboosts at first before it Adapts. There is no throttle cut while it is adapting. It does some cool things APR does not. It is second best. I would still have APR if they made a K04 file for the B5s.
Just save your self the agony and don't get GIAC. It lacks any controle of boost or decent way of coping with overboost.

can you describe what you mean by linear...
because if you mean power doping off over say 4500rpm thats the physical limitation of the intake and exhaust tracts not the chip.
If it was jumpy at part throttle (which my apr was not)then in my experience the GIAC will only be much worse.

GIAC software for the '01 is the X chip. also, you just missed WaterFest and H20 where you could've
gotten the chip for less $.<ul><li><a href="http://www.awe-tuning.com/pages/shared/part_detail.cfm?PMaI=1&PMoI=1&PEI=2&PP =a4_18t_chips.cfm&PPT=Chips&IL=GIACChips"> http://www.awe-tuning.com/pages/shared/part_detail.cfm?PMaI=1&PMoI=1&PEI=2&PP =a4_1
