Coolant Temperature problem - need help verifying
Hi everyone, I've been cruising the forums the past few days trying to diagnose this problem I'm having. The engine temp gauge hasn't been consistently getting to operating temperature. From everything I've been reading, it seems this is the green temperature coolant sensor (ECT sensor), however when I check the onboard diagnostic codes for the ECT sensor (#51 on climate control), it displays what I'd expect to see - it quickly gets up to 90 deg C.
What I'm really asking is: "If the temp gauge and the digital readout have discrepancies, does that mean the gauge isn't working properly?" I was about to buy the temp sensor, but if it's in the gauge, then that may be a different problem.
[Also, as a side note, has anybody with a low quality "ebay" OBD II to USB cable chipset had any success connecting it to Scan Tool? They claim it doesn't work, but if there's a workaround out there, it would be nice to know before I buy a higher quality cable.]
