Default Chip Recommendations

I've had my A4 for about eight months now and I've got to get some more juice out of my engine. I've been saving my change in a milk jug and I'm ready to pony up to a tasty little chip/ecu ensemble. Can I get some recco's on brand, model, new ecu v. no new ecu for dealer/warranty change out, and difficulty to remove your own ecu?
Looking forward to some new juice.

Default Re: Chip Recommendations

The closest thing to an "official" tuner for Audi is MTM. According to my extensive research, their tuning program is the most effective and reliable. I have the Stage II in my 99 Avant and have nothing but praise for the performance. I plan to move up to Stage III this summer. The website for the US importer is www.hoppenmotorsports.com .

Default APR is my choice... (more)

I went with APR in no small part to the postings on this board. Check the archives for more information on chips than you can shake a stick at.

I am near the end of my warranty period so I saved the extra cash of another ecu. If your car is newer, and your dealer is picky, the extra bucks for a spare computer is well worth it.

Removing the ECU is a snap. There is a detailed FAQ that tells you how.

Good Luck

Default Re: Chip Recommendations

Just put in my Garret chip on Tues and I love it. Great power! I got a spare ECU only because I've had the car about 2 weeks and I'm not sure how the dealer takes to chips. It's also leased so that played a big part.

Good Luck!

Default Garrett, APR, MTM and the Autothority .8 bar seems to be good as well. (more)

I have a Garrett - ridiculous amounts of torque. hard acceleration while turning produces major tire spin in a quattro. Super-smooth. Probably the most powerful due to the higher boost. 14.8 1/4 miles w/ quattro. Awesome. Pulls to redline in 5th on a straight... quickly ~145mph.

APR - the most common on the board. supposedly the smoothest. Great guys. Can't go wrong. Haven't seen alot of 1/4 times with this chip, but I'm sure they're good.

MTM - poor drivability is the concensus. Sorry Ned. However, also mighty powerful. Ask Rich Quinland I think he has one.

Autothority - not as much torque but great times with the .8 bar.

The only chip I have personal experience with is my Garrett. I have heard predominantly bad things about the other chip tuners.

Good Luck.

oh, and hey Tripp - I'm sure you'll read this!

Default MTM not anymore

Audi now has an official tuner (without the quotes): Quattro GMBH. I wonder if MTM still gets factory codes?....Anybody?

That would make it hard for APR and the like to reengineer the chip, no?
