Cant get rear diff bushings out of bracket, help! Got the bracket out and im trying to push, cut...
and hack these things out. Doesnt appear to be working very well. I dont have a press and only have very basic hand tools. I was told to bash it out with a screwdriver but the rubber is so soft it just bounces back. Im now trying to go around the metal cylinder to cut the rubber in between the cylinder and the bracket, but it doesnt appear to be doing much. Anyone got any ideas? One of the bushings is good and hacked up now so there is no turning back.

Step 6 is where im stuck.

You might consider the following methods I tend to use.
1)You might try drilling around the rubber bushing until the center metal bushing can be removed with a hack saw or by hand.
2)Map gas is another alternative(should be a last one at that), but I don't recommend it(see pic, torching bushings out of a 4runner suspension). If you do use this, use the torch very sparingly.
3)Once the center metal bushing is out, set the bracket up in a jig or vice to hack saw out the rubber bushing's shell. I would not press this out due to the delicate nature of the bracket housing itself. Its best not to stress it as , something will cant and distort the bracket. Then a new one will neeed to be purchased(about $200).
I'll be in a similar boat as I'm going to try Avalon's(Apikol) blue urethane bushings in our diff bracket.

Here's a pic with the Stern units installed. You might consider using a bit of wurth cu800 antiseize to keep any squeaks or noises out. Hope the install goes well.

If the bushings are from Apkol, you'll be able to..
...press them with your hand. The rubber piece splits in half. Insert one half on one side, second half on the other and slide the middle bearing. Done, no press. As for removing the old ones, pound a screw driver between the bracket and the ring (in several spots). It will bend, deform and you'll be able to get it out. I know it's not that easy, but shouldn't take longer than a few minutes to get it out.

Cut the rubber all out, and use a sawzall (or hacksaw..) to VERY carefully slice the outer ring...
if you cut it JUST BARELY to the end, you won't risk cutting the crossmember, and you can use a screwdriver to finish it off.
