Broken Timing Belt : Compression Test to diagnose valves?
My brother broke his TB on his 1.8t Passat and I just took a quick look at it and could see marks on all 4 pistons from the valves when I looked down the spark plug holes. I'm assuming to do a compression test I'm going to have to replace the belt? Just checking efore I waste my time.

that's what I figured. I'm thinking I'm going to tell him to look elsewhere for assistance
on my 3 days of vacation I don't think i have the time nor patience to deal with this.

Good point, maybe I should pull the head, any writeups on head pulling on a 1.8t
or should I just go crazy? I'm sure I could get it off w/out much issue. As long as I don't have to put it back together.
